The Wayland girls’ varsity basketball team lost 70-44 Tuesday night to Jenison in a non-league contest.
The Lady Wildcats had a rough start and a horrible ending. They fell behind 18-10 after one quarter and were down 33-22 at the half. They were still hanging in there at the end of three, 48-36, but were outgunned 22-8 in the final eight minutes.
Senior forward Macy Winger led Wayland with 10 points, freshman pivot Stephanie Ainsworth had eight and Sam Nieuwkoop and freshman Parrish Hudson each had six.
The Lady Wildcats, now 3-12 overall and 2-5in the O-K Gold Conference, will play at Middleville Thornapple Kellogg at 6 p.m. Friday.
